March 12 Update: We played 3 games this weekend at home and Dayton, across town. After a good Saturday and Sunday last weekend we looked to build on our base stealing progress. Our goal was to really exploit the righties who were 1.3 and over to the plate. Game 1: We ended up…

Tulane Weekend Your Team’s Confidence Matters I always tell people who come to watch us play that you might be surprised that it isn’t an absolute circus. Often, coaches hear me speak or follow my site and expect this out of control attack on the other team, which isn’t the case very often. Sometimes…

Steal Start Variations I wanted to add a blog update before our big break. Today we will condition for the last time and we were actually able to be outside more this fall than ever before. About 3 weeks ago we started to run more steal starts. We would draft teams and take the average…
Fall Season Recap In my last update we discussed motivating the players to actually continue their progress in our fall series because it is the closest thing to a “game-like” feeling. Generally players tense up and don’t want to be the guy to make an out. My strategy was to pull the players together…
Know WHEN you need to get your footwork This topic came up in our scrimmage last weekend. Our pitchers are getting much better at making us work to steal off of them. One of the methods a lot of pitchers use is to stop looking at the plate while they pitch with a runner on…
Since my last post we have made a few adjustments that have been paying off.. … FOR VIDEO CONTENT LOGIN OR SIGN UP AT THE STEALBASES.COM HOMEPAGE....
After having a good opening weekend I was interested to see the adjustments our pitchers made against us. Usually the second weekend is interesting. For the most part we maintained pressure on the bases with low risk. This is both good and bad. It is good because: We are very confident We are actually…
This week’s focus shifted toward game preparation. This means a lot less speed & agility technique with more emphasis on getting jumps. We played a scrimmage on Thursday, Friday and Saturday but those were pretty light due to pitch counts. We really only practiced Tuesday and Wednesday so our focus was new school jumps at…
Sprint Technique This week we went back to a sprint technique focus to prepare for the fall season. In the fall season we will not focus on this as much so I wanted to be sure to emphasize key points before entering the season. Throughout this week we focused on a technique drill then had…
After seeing my first few days of work with our players you can see I clearly separate building speed technique and base stealing. Somewhere in week 2 I will begin to actually add in base stealing work. If you do not have the same amount of time I would simply stick with the base stealing and use the warm up to touch on technique.
Day 2 of the fall
Goal 1: revisit all Old School Acceleration drills
Goal 2: Get players excited about base stealing through video
Goal 3: Get everyone on the same page as far as our expectations for both success and failure
Day 1 of the fall
Goal 1: Introduce players through our warmup + (6 minute daily routine)
Goal 2: Introduce players to mechanics of lateral acceleration
Goal 3: Introduce our "go to" drills for speed training
